What is a hydration system? Here's the 411
A hydration system is a way to efficiently carry and access water. Most of the products you see are worn like a backpack or a fanny-pack, and hold a reservoir full of water inside. You access the water via a bite valve positioned at the end of a delivery tube – just bite and sip. Many hydration systems are also designed to carry other gear besides water as well.
Because so many of us are limited in our leisure time, we want every experience to be the best possible. That means that we’re looking for products that help us feel better and perform better, longer, so that we can enjoy our activities to the fullest potential. Hydration systems are just that sort of product.
Why a hydration system?
Dumb question. The importance of hydration is at an all time high. You’ve probably noticed that many people are carrying water bottles with them during their daily routine. You’ve may have also noticed that more and more people are turning to hydration systems as an easy way to access their drinking water while active.
Here's the story on why you need to drink more:
You’ve felt the impact of dehydration while exercising. Maybe you’ve also felt the ongoing recovery effects the following day. But what many people don’t recognize is how too much fun on the trails or the slopes without enough water can impact you the next day. That loss of energy, fatigue and lack of endurance you experience on the second day is often the result of dehydration on the first.
1) Your body uses water to cool itself.
2) Just through perspiration, you lose about 1 liter of water per hour.
3) You can only absorb 1 liter of water per hour.
There are five studies by the American College of Sports Medicine that prove recreational and professional athletes alike stay better hydrated with a hydration system. In a nutshell, they say you will drink more because it is easy and convenient and because you have more water available.

What hydration systems does Gord's sell?
Back in the day we tried selling the Blackburn packs, The North Face hydration packs, the Hydropacks... That pack, this pack... and gave up. We do two brands of hydration packs and only two.
So thanks to that little clause in the Gord's Policy and Procedure manual that states "sell only what you'd buy yourself" and a myriad of other reasons we have decided to sell CAMELBACK hydration systems and the very cool DAKINE hydration systems exclusively. They are both in their own ways the very best in the business and in order for you to find the right one for you we have the very best selection of hydration packs in Manitoba. Come in, slip one on and see the difference a reliable supply of liquid will do for you.

ONE MORE IMPORTANT THING:
We were all sitting down discussing the benefits of a good hydration pack when someone blurted "and they've saved my ass a few dozen times". And we all looked at each other and thought in unison "me too".
No-one would dare sell a Camelback M.U.L.E. or a Dakine Builders Pack as a back protector but let us not underestimate the impact absorption capabilities of a properly fitted hydration pack. No, there are no studies to back this crazy claim and let us be clear, we're not saying that riding with a Hydration pack is in any way safer (our lawyers asked us to add that last one)... We can only tell you that many of us have fallen backwards onto something inhospitable only to have gotten bounced off or at the very least cushioned from certain injury. Some of us won't ride without them for that simple fact. Call it a bonus if you ever do land on your back while attempting "Bear" at Ingolf.
Call it Just another reason to get yourself a Hydration pack.

GORDS DOES COMMENCAL
Attention all bike lovers! Gord's is very proud to announce that we'll be offering Commencal Bikes starting in the summer of 2008! Commencal is a very cool, forward thinking niche bike company from Andorra. (they also hppen to sponsor the ubiquitous Cedric Gracia)... Needless to say we're very excited about this news!
Here's how this came about: Robbie and I were in Vegas, testing our allotted complement of bikes... and since day two was simply overrun with testers, bike companies were struggling to keep up with demand for test bikes. During one lull in testing (while waiting for the Jamis Dakar XAM to become available) I glanced over to the Commencal booth only to see someone about to return a "Meta 5.5" in my size... And since Commencal bikes had always piqued my interest I decided to pounce on the poor guy who was holding said bike. When I rolled up to Catherine and Rob on the Commencal both looked at me puzzled, "but that's
not on our list..." I shrugged, made up some story involving the French and off we went onto our favorite loop or Bootleg Canyon.
Once in a while a bike rides so well that you HAVE to reconsider stuff... This was one of those bikes. Not unlike Intense bikes in 2006. These Commencal bikes were NICE. So nice, in fact, that both Robbie and I felt it necessary to include it onto our respective TOP 5 BIKES lists.
The next step is the percolation, the mulling over of, the scheming, the math, the strategizing... Trying to find a way to get these sexy bikes on our floor for 2008. Gladly, with the help of the very nice and helpful Peter Appleton from Commencal Canada, we found a way... And man, are we stoked!
