May 15 2007 RIDE UPDATE
Happy Tuesday, Everyone!
Rain's gone, sun's out... Looks like Wednesday is going to be beautiful again
For all you 2006 members who have yet to renew: This will be your last ride update email of 2007. If you want to stay in the loop just drop on by either store and re-register for 2007.

Racing Update:
Tonight we're all going to encourage Gord's Race Team members Cat, Mel, Ryan and Kyle at the Bird's Hill Duathlon... Come along, bring a beverage, meet at my truck at the Bird's Hill East Beach Parking Lot at 6:00pm. There should be a whack of us there as it's Cat's Birthday Duathlon (hopefully she continues her habit of not checking this email). I hope to see you there!

WNR Update:
Tomorrow, Wednesday looks like it'll be another perfect evening for riding. Victim of our own success, the ride was HUGE last week!
We did a tremendous job of keeping the 48 riders rolling last Wednesday (Thank you to Matt, Darcey, Mike2 and all the other regulars for your help)... What helps lots is the deletion of gaps between you and the rider ahead of you... let's try to keep it at no more that one bike apart on non-technical terrain and the ride will flow nicely yet remain compact... more gap than that and we encounter a serious stretch problem. Please keep that in mind... Yes, I know, that may be confusing to the chronic tire rubbers (yes Dave, I said rubbers again) but please use your judgment...there's a time to ride close and there's a time to leave breathing room. Be courteous and pay attention to the rider ahead of you... It's your job to worry about the rider in front of you and the rider behind you's job to worry about you. (yeah... that's it).
If the ride grows much more beyond this current state we might have to consider splitting it up into two groups with two start times. Responsible, reasonable, level headed volunteers will be required in this instance... If you're prepared to help please email me back. We will find a way to reward you in some capacity (dinner with Gavin, perhaps). Heck, we need volunteers regardless. If you want to help out, just let me know by replying to this email.
For this Wednesday we'll hold to one group provided we don't exceed 50 riders. We're pulling out at 6:30pm sharp from Gord's on Donald. Be there or be square as I will not be in a position to wait for stragglers.

TNR Update:
Lots of rides on Thursdays!
TNHR:
Dave is all rearin' to go for the first of our patented Thursday Night Hammerhead Rides at Bird's Hill. Meet at the Burr Oak parking lot at 6:30pm Ride tears out at 6:45pm. You MUST email Dave at Dave@Gords.com to let him know you're coming.
TNRBC:
Our third "Gord's Ride Better Clinic" is pulling out at Gord's at 6:30pm to meet up with the late-start crew at 7:00pm under the Provencher Bridge on the forks side for some learn-to-ride-better séances... All skill levels are invited to come out... It's a great pre-WNR arm up, we ride around, take our time to practice certain terrain (like stairs and drops and climbs) and simply hone our respective skill sets... Your hosts for this series are Chris Gleeton and JF (JF is there mostly for eye candy)... But we'd love to have anyone who would like to help share what little they know with those of us who want to get better at riding. Please reply if you'd like to join us.
TNRR:
Our Thursday Night Road Ride series is starting up this Thursday as well! Please contact Ryan Loiselle at Racing@Gords.com to express your interest and for more information on where Thursday's Road Ride is scheduled to meet.

Epic Ride Update/Recap:
Spruce Woods turned into a bit of a gong show... We had a few mechanicals, a lung malfunction and POOF! Gavin and I were off the ride. This left the wolves in charge and unbeknownst to us a marathon Epic broke out. We won't let that happen again.
We're heading to Falcon Ridge on Sunday and perhaps somewhere else on Monday (should there be some call for a Monday Epic Ride) Regulars are invited to both. (Those of you who've participated in Epics before).
Let me know if you wish to join us... just say "Sunday" or "Monday" and I'll let you know what transpires.

Bike Club Gear Swap:
There has been quite a bit of interest in our first Bike Club Swap of the season... but not much love for the date. So we're pushing it back to Saturday May 26.
On this new date we'll be holding our annual Gord's Bike Club Gear Swap... A great time to pick up cheap stuff and to unload whatever bike gear you're not using anymore. Start a box, use masking tape to price your unwanted bike stuff, stay tuned for details.

PANORAMAAAAAAH!
What a great trip we had. Great people, great friends, great participants. From Bob, one of our bus drivers, with his kind demeanor, helping out wherever he could, getting us from Winnipeg to Calgary to Panorama smoothly and safely... With the help of his equally kind co-driver "Grrr Grrr" Jeff to Dave and Catherine and Tenzing and My roommates Annandale and Jenn who helped organize everyone... What a simply tremendous group of individuals we had (see, here I go) Just a blast of a trip. Panorama (no longer to be called Manorama for reasons best left in the hot tubs) is heaven on earth if your definition of Shangri-la includes breathtaking views, sensational weather, fantastic hot pools, amazing mountain biking through a trail network that defies description... Great modern facilities. Superlatives everywhere.. Read more about our trip to Panorama on an articles page HERE |

WE'RE GOING
RACING
We've been in bike racing before... And we're not talking bush leagues. This year we've decided to get back in the saddle and dabble in some road races, some triathlon races and some mountain bike races... Even a few Kids Of Mud events. If you've stayed away before because of the intimidation factor, now's the time to do it. JOIN US! We're going to endeavor to bring our famous laid-back camaraderie to it all. We're looking to add some riders to our ranks. If you feel the need for speed, have a healthy sense of humor about it all and let's not kid ourselves, we're mostly doing this for fun of it all. Simply drop us a line at Racing@Gords.com and introduce yourself to our team manager, Ryan Loiselle. He'll let you know what's involved with joining our team.

YES,
RIDE
ETIQUETTE
Ah yes, the joys of riding with a group, by yourself or
with a friend. No matter who or how or what you ride you
should follow certain rules in order to make sure everyone
has a great time. The way we ride today shapes mountain
bike trail access tomorrow. Do your part to preserve and
enhance our sport's access and image. Formulated
by IMBA, the International Mountain Bicycling Association.
These common-sense rules are recognized around the world
as the standard code of conduct for mountain bikers. IMBA's mission is to promote mountain bicycling that is both environmentally sound and socially responsible. If you wish to ride with us, it's the law of the ride. For the IMBA rules of the trail with our slight spin on them, please click on the link below.
