LOWEST PRICE POLICY
Yes,
we know, in the end it all comes down to price. After
all, no matter how great the service, how tremendous the
knowledge, how fantastic the product or how fabulous the
warranty, if you can't justify it to your wallet, the
bank or even worse, your spouse, it just won't fly. We
understand that. So we thought we'd take a moment and
spell out for you what we mean when we use the term "LOWEST
PRICE POLICY" on all the products we sell at Gord's:
1. We will match or beat any local competitor's price on the same in-stock
brand / model / size / color item. We do reserve the right
to decline doing so if the product is below cost or if
we can't get confirmation of said price.
2. Once verified, we will then issue you an in-store credit for 5% of the amount of the product in question before taxes AFTER the price match. EXAMPLE: if an item ends up, after all discounts, costing $1000 before taxes, you will receive $50 in the form of an in-store credit voucher. This credit must be used within 30 days following this transaction on anything in the store including service nd rentals.
3. If you've already purchased said item we will gladly
credit you the difference within 10 days of your purchase plus the 5% as described in #2.
Our commitment to you as far as pricing goes is quite
simple: We will not knowingly sell you anything for more
than any other competitor will. Obviously we are in business
to stay in business so we make no claim to being the discount
king of gear, we just want to make sure you're comfortable
that You will not pay more at Gord's. And plus, once we
get the pricing thing out of the way we can then concentrate
on getting you exactly what you want based on your wants,
needs, tastes and budget.
THE 7 STEPS WE TAKE:
1. We regularly surf the web to check out the competition,
our two main stops are www.sportchek.ca and www.sportmart.ca
and make sure we're at least one (1) Dollar (.99 cents
will do) less that them on the same product we sell. And
while they have many SMU's (Special Make-Ups) that come
and complicate things, we take those things into consideration.
Example: The Atomic C918 and the Atomic C920 are the same
ski yet the C920 is an SMU for a large chain, we price
match our C918 to match their C920... And so on... (I
bet you we're going to get another lawyer letter from
'them' requesting we remove this whole paragraph from
our website)
2. We regularly shop local competitors and do the same...
We then compare those prices to ours and make modifications
to match.
3. Every time we are out on a ski or snowboard trip,
we make it a point to visit the shops out there and make
notes... then we come back to Gord's and verify that we're
in-line price wise.
4. We call it GIA (Gord's Intelligence Agency) and we
rely on quite a few friends of Gord's, folks who let us
know what's going on... Just to be sure.
5. We listen and we ask. When a customer tells us he
or she has seen something cheaper elsewhere, we don't
just issue the credit, we go back there and we lower the
price.
6. We make fair margin. Fair price for quality product.
When we sell something that you can't buy anywhere else
(and that does happen here and there) We never gouge.
We believe in being ethical in our pricing. Our customers
come back and come back and come back... Many of them
we consider friends or even family... and we don't mess
with that. We treat everyone like we'd expect to be treated.
7. We will happily make price adjustments. Some folks
wait and wait and wait to see if maybe what they want
is going to be on sale at some point... and because we
live in Winnipeg, there is a better than 50/50 chance
that it will end up on sale at some point. And because
of that possibility we give you our word that if you do
decide to buy something and start enjoying it now we'll
credit you the difference if it DOES end up on sale later
on in that season.
THE RULES OF ENGAGEMENT:
1. Matching other retailer's pricing... No matter how
stupid the deal they are offering, we will always credit
you the difference if it's within 10 days of your original
purchase. Just as long as it's the same product, model
and year and the same size. What we will give you then
is a store credit that you can apply to anything in the
store: Rentals, Accessories, Service, Product, anything.
2. Matching our own sale or reduced pricing... For Equipment:
(skis, snowboards, ski bindings, snowboard bindings, ski
boots) We will always credit you the difference if we
reduce the price of equipment you've purchased from us
within 10 days of your purchase. And that's on same model
and brand, even if we no longer have the same size you
purchased. What we will give you then is a store credit
that you can apply to anything in the store: Rentals,
Accessories, Service, Product, anything.
So again, All this so you can feel comfortable in the
fact that we're trying very hard to make it a win win
win situation for you to buy when you want to buy and
not worry about being taken to the cleaners. Remember
this: Yes, our goal is to sell you stuff... but not just
stuff. The RIGHT stuff at the RIGHT price at the RIGHT
time.

THE LONG TRAVEL HOLY GRAIL
What we look for most in a full-suspension bike is intuitiveness. When a bike simply does its job, no fuss no muss. Rare is the ride you just jump on and go. Rob and I share that appreciation for that particular underrated characteristic. Many 4" travel bikes deliver that "comfortable hardtail" feel, I'm no expert but I kinda believe that the drama free suspension experience of 4" bikes has something to do with the fact that, well... quite simply, there's less suspension travel... so it's more "buttoned down". Examples of solid, intuitive 4" designs are many including the Jamis Dakar and the timeless Rocky Mountain Element family of bikes.
Getting bikes with more than 4 inches of travel to behave in that efficient, solid, yet lively way is not that easy it seems. Very few "5 inch and up" bikes that we've tested over the years managed to deliver the feel of a 4 inch bike with one or two more inches of travel. Once you get up there it seems that many bikes get wobbly knees or either get heavy in order to counter that long-travel challenge... The less-than-perfect examples simply become "squishy"
When we find that rare combination of balance, poise, comfort and efficiency it's usually very subtle. These bikes rarely jump up and shout "HEY LOOK AT ME! I DO MY JOB INTUITIVELY!" When we find a bike that blows us away we usually quietly look at each other and go "pssst! I like this bike" and ride for a bit longer until we add "hey, I think you should try this bike out, I'd like your thoughts"... all the while smiling and simply enjoying the ride.
To say that 2007 and 2008 have been very good full-suspension test seasons would be an understatement. With 3 sweet new bikes recently inducted into Gord's Long-Travel MTB Hall-of Fame. The Jamis BAM, the Scott Genius and the very bling Commencal Meta 5.5... Joining such superlative squishy icons such as the stalwart Jamis XLT, the Ellsworth Epiphany, the Rocky Mountain SXC and the much loved Jamis XAM.
Life is pretty sweet at Gord's. How fortunate are we to have some of the very best long travel bikes that don't act like big fat spongy marshmallows. Long travel bikes that make you wonder why anyone would ride less.
Listen, if you ride any trail, flat as it may be or steep as you can find... If you're over 19 years old and you want to keep on riding into your sixties and beyond... if you're still riding that hardtail WAKE UP! Give your head a shake. Do yourself, your body and your ass a favor, get with the times. INJECT SOME FUN in your moribund life, get a full suspension bike and join the ranks of those who do more than just ride, join the ranks of those who are having the time of their lives on their bikes, join the ranks of the living. LIFE IS TOO SHORT TO RIDE A HARDTAIL. (We should make a T-shirt!) Check out our full-suspension page HERE |
