WAY TO GO STEVIE!
Big fat congratulations to Gord's employee and "Gord's Girls Racing" Member Stevie Moore for becoming Canada's first gold medalist at the ITU World Championships in Vancouver on Friday June 7th. Stevie won the gold in the Women's Sprint Distance race in the Female 16 to 19 age category. It was a cold and wet day on Canada’s west coast on Friday as close to 600 age-group athletes braved the tough conditions at the World Championships. Coach Gary Pallett believes this is the second gold medal Manitoba has ever won at the Triathlon World Championships!

GORD'S RACING
May 28 2008 - Until Cat puts together a wicked-ass dedicated website, this is the home for Team Gord's Racing. The whole mess started about a month ago with six girls who thought "hey, let's race together as a team" and poof! Just like that Gord's Girls Racing was created. Featuring Carmen, Leanne, Jenn1, Jenn2, Cat and Carolyn, their goal was simple, to crush all competitors without mercy (ok, maybe their goal was just to go out and have fun while pushing themselves to the limit... but the truth just didn't sound quite as awesome as the "crushing" thing) but you get the idea, it was all about getting some girl power together... Then the boys started showing up and the concept went all sideways... The girls actualy liked having the boys around so now we're back to simply Gord's Racing.

For the final race of the series (the Bird's Hill Duathlon Series only runs in May) we had a couple of ringers sub-in for the injured Jenn2 (playing the role of Jenn2 for the second week in a row was Dan) and the absent Carmen (playing the role of Carmen this week was the almost equally cute Aaron) and let's not forget Keith, the team mascot and team "special project" (all are pictured above). Needless to say we're all super proud of our team (all proudly racing on Jamis bikes except for Jenn who is about to make the move to a sweet Jamis triathlon bicycle). We're looking forward to the end-of-series results to see how our girls did (check back soon for the full results) Until then we encourage you to check out the results from all 4 races: Race1 Race2 Race3 and the final Race4 on May 27 2008 where the girls managed to get top bike times in each of their categories! WAY TO GO TEAM! Gord's Bike Club Members can check out all the cool pics right HERE.

BIRD'S HILL DUATHLON RECAP
The Bird's Hill Duathlon series is over now and our heartfelt congratulations go out to Team Gord's Girl's! (and the Gord's Boys who subbed-in here and there) as well as a big thank you to the great race organizers as well as Tri Manitoba for sanctioning such a great event.

Special kudos to Leanne (who had her personal best for the series yesterday) for even doing this crazy thing. Carolyn (who had her best race on the final duathlon as well), Carmen (who is not to far off her pre-mom pace) and Jenn who all three kept it interesting by battling it out to very end for second place behind our fearless team captain Catherine who, despite a nagging leg injury managed to "personal best" her run time yesterday before a power-gel fiasco that derailed her hopes of completely annihilating her personal best.

Let's start with (Team-Captain) Cat's observations from the last race.

Nice job team at the duathlon last night!!!

Stevie, holly crap, you kicked ass! How do you run that fast? [BTW nice 1st place job on the Jamis Comet tri-bike].

Carolyn, who told us she actually trained last week. Nice improvement on your time. This was by far your fastest race! You shaved off a minute and a half!

Leanne, guess that dynamic warm-up worked hey. That was your fastest time out of all 3 races. Both runs and bike were fast. You beat your best total time by 1 min.

Jen, solid run and bike, you kept me on my toes the first run. Just wait until you have your new tri bike. You’ll have to wait for me at the finish line.

Keith, so, shaving 10 min off your bike time. Hmmm, think you’ll ever go back to your full suspension for racing? Great job. Your first race was 1:15:48, your second was 1:06:48. Nice work!

Aaron, nice 5th place positioning. It was the retro aero helmet all the way. You should have run with it on. Next time. Start training for those triathlons now!

Dan, thanks for not passing me on the bike in front of my boyfriend. Boy that would be embarrassing! Haha. Nice work Mr. 3rd place finish.

Cat has decided that the Girl's Tri http://www.triathlon.mb.ca/girls_tri/ will be the last race under the moniker "Gord's Girls Racing" ... mostly because of the amount of boys who want to come out and play too. From this point forward we'll simply refer to the gang as "Team Gord's Racing". Let Cat cat@madcrayon.com know if you want to come racing with the team this year, she'll fill you in on what's up!

THE WORDS "AWARD WINNING" MAY JUST APPLY HERE
Over the past 40+ years that we've been working hard to earn your trust and business we've won many awards and kudos... From our SIA (Snow industries Association) award for Canadian Retailer of the Year to our recent accolades as Uptown Magazine's Best Bike Shop in Winnipeg, we never stop working to be the best we can be. Never taking your business for granted, never sitting on our laurels.

SEVEN YEARS AGO THIS WEEK
Seven years ago this week JF sold Leanne a bike... and the rest is what some may be so bold as to call history. JF's now General Manager of Gord's ski and Bike and Leanne now runs, among other things, Gord's location on Donald... My how things have changed since then, how much water has flowed under said bridge... The one thing we both share is our love for what we do and our mutual admiration for the team we've put together. a great big "Happy Anniversary" is in order, I guess. Here's to seven more years of good times and great accomplishments.

TRAIL MAINTENANCE
This past weekend Gord's Bike Club spent a little bit of time putting a bit back into our bike community by doing two simple things...

MORE BIKES ARRIVING DAILY!
It's a busy time here at Gord's... With the record start to the season we admittedly got behind the eight-ball and ran out of certain bikes and sizes. But have no fear we're restocking weekly and adding on to our inventory every few days. If we don't have what you want today, chances are it's on the way!

THE FIRST RIDE OF 2008!
We started this ride last year and now it's now our annual kick-off ride of the season! 31 RIDERS SHOWED-UP FOR OUR SECOND ANNUAL GORD'S TO GORD'S TO GORD'S WEDNESDAY NIGHT RIDE! 31 woefully out of shape club members rode from Gord's on Donald to Gord's on Kenaston and back... It was a bit of a faster ride since we had to make it back before dark and yes, it was a bit less of a trail ride because, of course, much of our trails are still less than rideable. We met at L1 (our Donald store) at 6:00pm and we take off at 6:30pm sharp. What blast it was! THIRTY ONE RIDERS that's a record for a season kick-off ride!

GORD'S BIKE CLUB UPDATES
Every year I promise to do this and every year I unfortunately fail at keeping you folks abreast of what's happening with Gord's Bike Club through the website. Sure, we do the regular email update to the membership but for some reason the UPDATE PAGE always lags behind. This may very well be the year, the year we supply you with an up-to-date on-line page where we keep you informed of Rides, events and promotions and all sorts of news from the big bad world of Gord's Bike Club. Thank goodness for hope.

WE LOVE MOUNTAIN BIKES!
Less kind folks who visit our fair province often scoff "Mountain bikes in Winnipeg? But... you have no MOUNTAINS!" To that we regularly reply "OF COURSE MOUNTAIN BIKES! HAVE YOU SEEN OUR ROADS?"
(no but really, all kidding aside, have you seen our roads?).

Mountain bikes are super versatile and allow so much terrain diversity that they're a hard entity to ignore if you're shopping for an all-around bike. For more about our Mountain Bike selection, check out our new MTB product page HERE:

GORD'S KIDS OF MUD IS A GO!
Here we are, proudly entering our second season in the Kid's of Mud. This year we plan on taking another step forward with our little club within a club. (all Kid's of Mud members are also associate members of Gord's Bike Club) We have big plans, growing and improving on our first season... With new coaches, lots of returning coaches, a new coordinator (Thanks Lisa!) and lots of great ideas, we're all very excited about 2008.

WHY DO WE SELL WHAT WE SELL?
It's an honest question that should be asked and that will be answered: Why do we sell this brand and not THAT brand, why did we select this Jamis Bike over that Jamis bike, why do we sell Burton? Why did we replace Rossignol with Dynastar? Why did you pick-up Scott bikes? All these questions... Curious? We have some answers to your questions starting with our 2008 bike brands right here:

NEW AT GORD'S FOR SUMMER '08
We finally have a plan to get your kid riding a decent bike! Too many kids are forced to ride crappy bikes just because they have the misfortune of growing. Don't punish your progeny or make them adopt drastic growth-stunting measures in order to save a few bucks, your kids deserve a good bike!

TIME FOR A NEW
KIDS BIKE?

Often an afterthought for some bike shops, kids bikes (and kids in general) are a very big deal to us. We're no dummies, we know who our future customers are and since we plan on being around for a long, long time, it makes perfect sense for us to make sure we take care of our younger customers the right way. Visit our kids bike page where we'll explain to you what to look for in a kids bike in order to get the best bang for the buck...
WHAT DO
YOU GET

Nothing sucks more than buying a bike and being left all alone, trying to figure out what to do next from a maintenance point of view. When you buy a new bike From Gord's Ski and Bike, here's what you get don't just get a bike, you also get nothing less than 44 years of experience and an entire team devoted to making sure your bike rides just right. Relax, enjoy the process and smile: Gord's New Bike service plan has you covered, wheel to wheel.

THE EVER-YOUNG JAMIS XLT
There has never been a bike in our history that has ever defined us more than the Jamis XLT. Simply put this is the best bike anyone could possibly buy under $1600. We've sold many Jamis XLT's over the years, from the most excellent XLT 2.0 of 2003 that won Bike Of The Year honors two years in a row to the wicked bling Jamis XLT 3.0 (Like the one JF is riding on the pic above) to this years' CANADA-ONLY XLT, the final year of production for the venerable, amazing XLT. These bikes have turned average bike riders into true aficionados for many years and have left their indelible mark on all who have had the pleasure of owning one.

What makes these superlative full-suspension bikes so special is the fact that XLT's simply evolved over the years from humble beginnings as a cross-country trail bike to an extended-travel XC bike (XLT stands for Extra Long Travel)... and simply got better year after year. They handle predictably, they allow a massive margin of error, they are surprisingly sprite and nimble while remaining confidence inspiring. No fuss, no muss, they do their job and they ride like few other bikes ride. Enough that when Jamis announced it was discontinuing the XLT after 2007 Canadian Jamis dealers got together and demanded "ONE MORE YEAR" and Jamis complied. (By the way, folks this NEVER happens in the bike business... NEVER). And so we get a year's reprieve. Get one now while you still can. This bike will make you love off road riding in a way few bikes ever could. Do it, do it now because they only made so many of them for us Canucks.

.
THE RIDE
We've said it before: It's all about the ride. The ride to Seven Eleven, the ride to your buddies house, the ride we call Ingolf, the ride at Panorama, Fernie, The Seine River, the ride through the monkey trails at Assiniboine Park, the ride with your 30 favorite buddies or the ride with your daughter.

Yes the bike is important. But more important than the bike is the smile on your face. So get off your butt, dust off your bike, throw on your helmet and come riding with us next season! For more information on how we can help get you out, click on the following link:
