ABOUT GORD'S:
Gord's Ski and Bike is a Winnipeg based shop that started from very humble beginnings: in 1961 with a $1000 loan from a gentleman named Shluderman who just happened to co-invent the removable metal ski edge a long time ago in Europe. From the coat check in the basement of the now defunct of the Winnipeg Ski Club on Togo and Osborne Gord's Ski Centre emerged as one of the premier ski shops in western Canada... From there Gord's grew into it's second location at Number 7 Donald Street... Today Gord's is the largest independent ski and bike retailer in Central Canada with two locations totaling over 13,000 square feet of the very best clothing, ski and bike product anywhere. Winner of the Prestigious Snow Industries Association's "Canadian Retailer of the Year" and most recently voted "Best Bike Shop in Winnipeg" by the readers of Uptown Magazine, Gord's Ski and Bike is constantly striving to be the best place for Manitobans to fulfill their Outerwear, Ski and Bike Gear fix.
Bolstered by the very best staff anywhere and an insatiable desire to become the best we can be, Gord's is committed to outstanding customer service and above and beyond product knowledge. What truly sets us apart is our common degree of caring and our need to get out there and participate in the activities that we represent. From our much loved Bike Club to our involvement in grass-roots programs and events like the International Mountain Bicycling Association, it's in our mission statement to get out there and play with our customers. To not only sell stuff but also to get to know WHO our customers are in order to better take care of their needs. Like Gord once said to JF one winter day many, many years ago: "Never sell them the wrong stuff... let someone else do that".

DOING IT RIGHT
Bob emailed us, concerned about a little paint chip he had on his bike... So we suggested to him that he drop by one of our shops and we'd take care of him... Here's his follow-up email (we thought we'd share):
JF,
I ended up taking my bike in to the Donald Store and they touched up the paint. I have had a great experience. I am a novice rider and I am very happy that I bought my new mountain bike from your company, because your staff have made me feel important and have helped me pick out a bike that I am looking forward to riding. In particular, I would like to say thanks to Jenn of the Donald Store for greeting me very well and helping me pick out a great bike Rocky Mountain Flare.
She was very helpful and knowledgeable. Also, I would like to say thank you to another of the staff from the Donald Store who helped adjust the bike to fit me better. As well, I went to the Kenaston location yesterday afternoon to get some additional adjustment to the seat and stem. I ended up buying an air pump and a water bottle from there. My point is that I am very happy and looking forward to continuing to learn more about riding and trail riding and I will look forward
to shop at your stores because of your friendly staff and their good knowledge. Hopefully, once I am a bit more fit I can join the bike club and hit some trails. Thank you very much.

might just show up. This is the season of receiving and every day brings with it a few more trucks, a few more deliveries. This a crazy time of year here at Gord's and we like it that way!
GORD'S RACE DEPARTMENT
 It's sad but it's true. Manitoba is generally (and may we add erroneously) seen as Canada's Gulag when it comes to ski racing and skiing in general but don't tell that to the hundreds of kids who giver' every single weekend or the thousands of die-hard skiers who live for the white stuff.
 Gord's Ski and Bike is one of Canada's premier ski shops and we'll always cling to our founder Gord Ried's ideals and values when it comes to taking care of our devoted ski community. Part of that commitment is supporting
the ski racing community. We've been racing for a very, very long time from Gord's need for speed back in the day to JF's passion for racing throughout his career that included racing, racing and more racing at every level including the Quebec BMW Masters Series and infamous coaching stints at Owl's Head, Jay Peak, Orford and Bromont. Add to JF's experience the fact that we have quite a few employees who've roamed the racing scene  over
the years and we're proud to say that no retailer in the city has more experience at eating gates or drilling holes in snow as we do. Suffice it to say that ski racing is more than an activity or a product category for us, it's in our DNA. When we talk, we can back it up with some walk.
We're even more proud of our relationship with key coaches like Greg K, guys who live for their kids and their athletes, guys who care for the sport just as much as we do. These coaches are the heart and soul of ski racing in Manitoba and we're happy to call them friends.
 If you're a racer, whether it be Nancy Green or Masters, just pop by Gord's Race Department at our Donald store and ask to talk to one of our ski experts. We'll let you know about our programs amid our sweet
race product from Dynastar, Nordica, Head, Blizzard Scott, POC and of course Fischer! (check back for more).

Yes, it's true, you can still find $25 winter jackets at a few department stores but come on! this is your child we're talking about here! And no, we're not suggesting you throw $500 out the window and buy your kid a designer snowsuit either... But somewhere around $200 you can outfit your favorite human in something that will keep him or her warm, keep them dry and not break the bank.

We think terminology such as "puking" and "record snowfall" and "HOLY CRAP!" can safely be used for this November's snow report from most every resort west of the Rockies including Sunshine Village, Whistler and many, many more! Get ready, this season is looking promising like few other before it. WOOHOOO!!!

 Gord's "Personal Gear Consult" is something we thought up after our first of many busy weekends here at Gord's.
